Teams: It is a 7-a-side team with a squad of 10 pupils. Players can be rotated on and off. The squad members not on the pitch act as team managers.
Teams must have a minimum of three girls and three boys on the pitch plus one other.
Bibs – Please bring bibs in case of any kit clashes.
Refreshments – You will need to bring drinks with you.
Clothing – Please make sure your teams have suitable clothing and they may require layers to keep warm or sun cream if its hot!. Only Astroturf and normal trainers to be worn, NO studded footwear will be allowed. No baseball caps should be worn during matches.
All players should wear shin pads (can be football ones, do not need to be hockey specific) and gum shields are Highly recommended.
First Aid – Please bring your own school First Aid Bag. We will have our own First Aid support, but in the first instance you should administer your own.
Equipment – You will need to bring enough wooden hockey sticks for your team and these should NOT be the plastic Unihoc sticks.
Rules – The rules of Quicksticks are more flexible than standard hockey rules. We encourage participants to do the right thing but accept they wont always achieve this. We do NOT want them to use their feet or the back of their stick at any time, but accept this will happen. Therefore, umpires will be lenient about this and will blow the whistle when they deem an obvious advantage has occurred by foul play. Please allow them to do so without judgement – some may also be learning on the job! Self passing is allowed at all Free Hits and goals can only be scored when shooting from inside the shooting zone. This area will be made clear on the day. There are NO penalty corners or penalty flicks. Both teams need to be 3m from Free Hits. Corners will be taken in line with where the ball went off from the shooting zone line.
There are no goalkeepers in quicksticks, but you can have a defensive minded player in front of the goal. If they save the ball from going in with anything other than their stick a goal will still be given.
Power Play – This year we are trialing a NEW idea of Power Plays. If a team goes 4 goals down you will be able to bring on an eighth player, so 8 v 7. If you score, so it is 3 goals down, the eighth player leaves the pitch.
If you go 6 goals down you can bring on two players, so 9 v 7, until it is 4 goals down, then one player leaves.
This MUST be managed by you as staff members as we will not be able to oversee this across all the pitches.
Winners from this tournament will represent Stevenage at the Level 3 School Games (County) final on Wednesday 25th May at Oaklands College.
